PHILOSOPHY
To develop cost-effective, simple and reliable nutrient management systems to help farmers increase and stabilize crop yields in lowland and upland farming systems through improving knowledge of soils and water quality.
APPROACHES
- Characterize soils and determine nutrient requirements for rice and upland crops
- Continually revise and update recommended nutrient management practices
- Develop suitable tools to aid nutrient management and research at the local level
- Characterize relationships between soil types, cropping systems and supplementary irrigation and irrigation water quality
- Integrate soil management strategies with other practices to develop whole-farm management packages
